Charles has collaborated with Vervain to create his own fabric line. The Charles Faudree Collection features original artwork inspired by the famed interior designer and documents uncovered during his worldly travels.
“Charles Faudree has a passion for interior design, decorating and Country French,” says David Klaristenfeld, vice president of Vervain. “We are honored Charles agreed to license his first fabric collection with Vervain.”
Faudree thrives on layering his interiors with a mix of past and present, old and new to create inviting rooms that express a casual, comfortable feeling. His signature design style embodies the relationship between a simple French farmhouse and an elegant chateau. The Charles Faudree Collection encompasses a mix of prints, patterns, color and texture, blending checks with florals, along with statement fabrics and coordinates that are all elements of his interior designs.
“This collection is my way of designing with other interior designers,” says Faudree. “With color, scale and layering of patterns, you originate a welcoming environment that is exciting. The mixing of fabrics and furniture, old with the new creates a casual elegance that is lasting.”
Faudree and April Faudree Moore, Faudree’s cousin and former design associate, worked closely with Vervain’s Vice President of Design, Nina Butkin, to develop this exquisite collection. Faudree and Moore started by gathering their favorite fabrics, documents and inspiration pieces. In this collection, Faudree wanted to include classic, traditional and timeless fabrics. Patterns were created from antique fabric documents and artwork found in Faudree’s personal collection. They even pieced together their favorite stripes to construct a signature stripe pattern for this collection. As the original designs were made into fabrics, classic Faudree palettes and fresh, current colors were identified for the collection.
“When it comes to fabrics, if it’s not already in my library, it’s not available,” says Faudree. “The opportunity to develop my own fabric collection allowed me to create fabrics and patterns, which over the years, have faded away. When was the last time you saw a new toile?”
In Faudree’s collection, you will find two. His Cavalier Toile is the cornerstone of this collection. Named after his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs, Nicholas and Ruby, this pattern was hand-painted specifically for the collection. Faudree and Moore drew inspiration and reference from traditional pastoral toile etchings and a scene from an antique French map. The outcome is a fascinating and updated version of a timeless, classic toile – Faudree’s very own.
For two years, Charles and April poured their hearts and souls into the development of this collection,” says Butkin. “It genuinely articulates Charles’ talent and love of decorating.”
“Throughout this process, it has never felt like a job. This has truly been a joy and has created a lasting legacy for me,” adds Faudree.
The Charles Faudree Collection is available in Vervain Showrooms and in a three-book program for interior designers worldwide.
